Notes from midterm
–Why would you put the algae farm in the center of the city? –Related to urban farming not every production can you eat algae? Create biofuels? Can algae grow on facades? –More energy efficient to grow food in the city then to send fuel into the city… –More people interacting with the farming… create a community –Algae farming is more industrial, putting this type of farm in the center of the...

Notes from midterm (questions and suggestions)
What do you mean by producing water? Conserving water?
_________________________________
Similarity to Berlin/NYC need to retrofit the city. Big possibilities to interact the gray water and how it can be used along the site as well
_________________________________
May have only gray water in our buildings. You are showing both scales - people and building systems - talk more about human scale.
_________________________________
Good start in design that deals with water and urban heat island. However, not showing it well. Would just the roof collect water? In order to catch more rain, shouldn’t the façade also be integrated into the collection system?
_________________________________
Use top as storage and make umbrellas larger (could become shading device for the exterior)
_________________________________
Apply new technologies to old buildings. Supplement image with a catalogue approach to all you water systems.
_________________________________
Struggling with image of water scarcity in Paris? Do you do more than just absorb water from a little bubbles; what is the story behind them?
_________________________________
The sea water tower use the Seine River? Why La Defence to talk about water?
_________________________________
This area in the City was not built as a water scarce environment – Urban Heat Island… etc. you have focused on only one aspect of many issues of water scarcity…
- What happens to the ground surface?
- The rest of the city as well?
- Do ground surfaces become permeable?
- How do we retrofit a place like this when we know it doesn’t work?
- Will this area have more problems than the city center?
_________________________________
Think about restructuring areas to collect water.
- A good approach, but maybe to strait forward – retrofitting the facades
- Umbrellas on the roofs are not a good solution – doesn’t show how serious the issue is.
- Push harder… make a big impact… its not just about the ground plane

Ftrctlb: How does the change in climate influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the change in climate conditions for your city.
________
Because temperatures will become more extreme over the next 30 years, there will be a much greater need for cooler areas. The temperatures seen in Paris in Summer 2003 will become the norm for these areas. Topics, such as urban heat island and urban greening, will be major aspects in keeping cities cool. Because the temperatures will be in the extremes, health issues will become a major concern with the population (i.e. dehydration) and even an altered distribution of new diseases.

Ftrctlb: How does the change in demographics influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the projected demographics in your city.
________
The projections for Berlin state there will be a major shift in the age structure. Over 60% of the will be 65+ and a mere 30% will be of the working age. This will change the dynamic of the city immensely. Research has shown the best buildings for the elderly to live in are high-rise structures, because they have elevators and different commodities that are in close range. By having mixed use towers, the ease of living for elderly will become mandatory.
Another projection includes a majority of the immigrant population will move away from Berlin, either back to their home country, or to another location. By having a decrease in population, The city will have to be planned in an alternate way, to allow for more centralized districts.

Ftctlb: What are the 3 other topics that would influence your topics.
Please let us know what are the links.
________
For one, technology advances would influence my topic greatly. With newer technologies, more jobs can be created, causing more people to move into the cities. People want to live in cities that are up to date with the current and future advances.
Another topic that would be significant is water usage. Water is becoming a scarcity. Just as cities began by forming around a body of water (rivers, coastlines) they will return to be the most dense around these areas. Water is not only used for transportation of goods, it is important for drinking, cleaning and cooling off during the extreme heat waves.
Finally, quality of life is most important. People want to feel comfortable, high-tech, in the know and surrounded by other people. People want to live where the general population is. They want to see and be seen. This is an important part of cities.
________
Ftrctlb: What is the most important detail in your vision in regards to your topic.
Please present the research that this one is based on (link to wiki page).
________
The most important detail in my vision is based on the mixed use towers. The architecture firm Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis (LTL) calls themselves "opportunistic architecture" and has done significant research on multi-use towers. These towers can not only help centralize the population, they create a specific urban density that is longed for. People want to live with other people. They want to meet at cafes, bars, bookshops; however, they also want to stay close to home. By having mixed use towers, people can have everything they need in one place.

Urban Heat Island Effect
ftrctlb: How does the change in climate influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the change in climate conditions for your city.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Urban Heat Island Effect is one of the major factor which change the climatic condition. The UHI heats up the urban areas than in rural condition and hotter environment faces more hotter degrees in temperature. Paris has hot weather in summer, due to UHI, Paris was stroke by heat wave in 2003. So, climate change would increase the possibilities of major heat wave in future.
-------------------------------------------------------
ftrctlb: How does the change in demographics influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the projected demographics in your city.
As people are moving towards cities, the population of the Paris will going to rise. The increase in population will also increase in the density of the city, and infrastructure. More infrastructure, the city would be covered by the urban surfaces i.e the impervious surfaces which is directly proportional to the UHI.
The second important fact is the high density people increase the Anthropogenic heat emission. Anthropogenic heat is also increasing the UHI in urban scenario. It is not the major factor but this is hard to deal with.
--------------------------------------------
ftrctlb: What are the 3 other topics that would influence your topics.
Please let us know what are the links.
----------------------------------------
The three different factors that would influence UHI are
1) Regional Climate change changes in ecosystem. The change in ecosystem is a vast area where the adoptation of the living beings might be complex things, as small organism like algae, bacterial are faster in adoptation but other plants may not be, so the major changes can be seen in foods.
2) Green house gases.
3) Impervious surfaces (such as concrete, asphalts e.t.c) It means lack of greenery and less evopotranspiration.
-------------------------------------------
ftrctlb: What is the most important detail in your vision in regards to your topic.
Please present the research that this one is based on (link to wiki page).
--------------------------------------------
The most important factor regarding my vision is the material of the urban surfaces.
Green spaces.
Technologies or built in system to cool down buildings.

Ftrctlb: How does the change in climate influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the change in climate conditions for your city.
Answ: Change in climate is directly influencing energy consumption. For example in Moscow last summer was the hottest and accordingly the maximum electro power consumption period of the summer. All electricity had consumed for cooling.

Ftrctlb: How does the change in demographics influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the projected demographics in your city.
Answ: Moscow is one of the most populated cities in Russia and Europe. Every day the population increases. Over the last 8 years the population of Moscow increases on 1 131546 inhabitants.
It is due mostly to the influx of people from other regions of the country. Population growth influences the growth of energy consumption.

Please present the research that this one is based on (link to wiki page).
Answ: I think that the most important detail in this topic is reducing Co2 emission by introducing natural ways of receiving the energy. Another issue is to manage to develop technology in a right direction so that it is not "gadgets" that are doing particular job but complex behaviour of the systems that are integrated with nature

Ftr.ct.lb* - How does the change in climate influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the change in climate conditions for your city.
_____________________________
Answer - The climate will become hotter, it will be more sunny days in a year that is why I think that people should make more shade places, because to spend the time in the sun is becoming more difficult. Old buildings will need a double-skin, and for new buildings completely different system of construction.

Urban Greening. Berlin.
- How does the change in climate influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the change in climate conditions for your city.
----------
due to climate change situation, the summer in most European cities is becoming unbearably hot and winters unbearably cold. To control the state of the climate in Berlin, the maximum greening the city will be most welcome. If the maximum green the city and the proper use of all its natural resources, we will in all seasons to create in the most pleasing to the human temperature.
----------
- How does the change in demographics influence your topic in your city.
Please also describe what is the projected demographics in your city.
----------
By 2050, 75% of the population will live in cities. Since Berlin is one of the largest cities in Germany with a population of 3.5 million people, the likelihood that future population will grow very large. Population growth leads to problems such as the need to feed the entire population. Agriculture will not cope with this situation, so we need to consider the solution of this problem in the city itself. With a maximum spread of vertical farms in the city of Berlin, landscaping can completely solve the problem.
http: //ftrctlb.com/node/310
The same goes for environmental pollution, which is an increase in population will also grow, and gardening is just intended to deal with this problem.

Please present the research that this one is based on (link to wiki page).
----------
The most significant in my vision are vertical farms. Every year the area of arable land is decreasing. So, if in 1950 each person had about 0.52 hectares, by 2050 this figure will be less than 0.19 ha. Solve future problems, scientists are trying different ways: some propose to grow the plants in the deserts, and others - to move a farm in the city, giving impetus to the development of urban "rural " economy.

-------------------------------------
Last summer the weather was really very hot, and two last winters were very cold. That`s why in my vision of Moscow 2050 main role is playing urban greening. So ,if we have more plants , than we need more water. Moscow is the city- that didn`t have serious problems with water supply. In spite of growing population, water consumption in recent years have been lower. This is due to many reasons. (One of them - is the appearance of water meters in Moscow apartments). That’s why I make an accent on the social role of rivers and water in the city.

If we will compare the situation in hole Russia and Moscow we can predict that the population in Moscow will be go up. In my vision of this district there is no private transport, only public. In my opinion in 2050 city center will have only public transport. It will be raised to the next level, allowing the public to walk freely on the main level.

The most important thing is that we have got the river in this district. The River, which was taken in a pipe and buried, becomes the main axis of the park directing the user towards the city center. In winter time , river is also has an important public role: ice skating, hockey, sculpting snowmen becomes a reality Moscow .

The next revision displays on how many can be a scarcity of water of 2050. People would like to buy such device as Solarball or Watercone (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/231#Realized_projects) which produces drinking water for home uses. The main idea of water in the future is water for all live. Environment starts to adapt for the best living conditions of the people in a city.

The basic thought is specified in a scarcity of water of the future. The surrounding architecture will start to be redesign. One building will serve for reproduction water or water storage. Others will incorporate to the first and to reproduce necessary products of ability to people live. Building of new constructions such as Evolo Skyscraper (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/231#Non-Existent) will reproduce fresh water from dirty or salty water.

Topics which influence a water topic:
1. Urban densification (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/157). The main problem on a water scarcity all over the world is the big growth of dencity population. The requirement of water increases every day more and more. If peoples becames more then more requirements, and then more agricultural, industrial, applied activity of the people.
2. Urban greening (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/162). The green body of a planet has very important role in human life. It can consume water on reproduction of products but also reproduce a water.
3. Energy (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/161). Water is energy. Water is one of the most natural energy sources. One of an example is renewable energy Hydroelectric Energy from falling water.

In my opinion the most important detail of vision of the future it to inform to people that is really important and necessary in our life. To focus such actions as the World Water Day (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/231#On_Earth) on development of new understanding and the relation to natural resources as water.
One of the important aspect in our future - Water Scrcity (http: //ftrctlb.com/node/231#Water_scarcity)
